The care home of the Caritas department of Samogitian Kalvarija is a modern and cozy shelter for old age, dedicated to a dignified, bright life of people of mature age. Located on the beautiful outskirts of Lithuania, in Plungė district, this care home is surrounded by the nature of Samogitian Kalvarija – the tranquility of hills and lakes, where seniors can feel at home. The history of the care home began in 1994, when the town’s doctor Marija Danutė Maceinaitė-Mickūnienė was the first to establish and manage this home. Since then, although the beginning was difficult, the home has grown and strengthened – with the help of local residents, foreign support and sincere work, the care home has been transformed into a modern institution.
of 14 November 2014 The Bishop of Telšiai, Jonas Boruta SJ, consecrated a new building of the care home, which he named after St. Peter’s Church. Pope John Paul II. The new building, designed by architect Henrikas Štaudė, can accommodate 32 seniors. This house is distinguished by a modern, geothermally heated space, which meets all the requirements of the European Union, which is why it is called the “Palace of Dignified Old Age”.
Residents here pray every day, share joys and worries, and create warm ties with the local community. They are also attended by children from the Samogitian Kalvarija “Vilties vėrinėliai” center and the students of the Motiejus Valančius gymnasium, who give a lot of joy with their events. 20 employees of the care home take care of the daily needs, health and emotional well-being of seniors, creating an environment where everyone feels valued, needed and dignified.
